 ARTIST RESUME

In Chicago in the early 1960s,  had a solo show of paintings and sculpture at John Hunt Gallery and had work in many group shows.

Helped organize the Mid-West “Exhibition Momentum”, juried by Franz Kline, Philip Guston and Sam Hunter.

Moved to NYC in1965.

Solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1974 with an 85’ painting: “ Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall to Water St.” with catalog by Marcia Tucker; the same epic painting was shown again in 1983 in the Brooklyn Bridge Centennial show at the the Brooklyn Museum.

Commissioned by the US Dept. of the Interior to do a 14’ painting of the “Canyonlands” in Utah, included in a survey exhibition “America '76” shown Nationwide in 9 Museums from the Corcoran to the San Francisco Mus. of Modern Art.    This and related Utah paintings were shown solo in NYC at David Findlay Gallery.

Recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant.

As co-founder and Exhibition Director of the Organization of Independent Artists, I directed major exhibitions in NYC, in the Federal Bldg., and US Court Houses and other venues in the late ‘70s, without pay, in the belief that artists should have other options to have their work seen outside the money driven art market.

In the early '80s worked as part of the NYC Artists Project.    Did a prototype "Art in the Subways" project,  a ceramic tile mural for the MTA Clark St. Station in Brooklyn:                               and a watercolor survey of  "Brooklyn Industrial Buildings 1850 -1920s" for the Brooklyn Historical Society.

Two major PUBLIC ART Commissions, in 1986 and 1991 -

For the City of Flint and the United Auto Workers union a concrete and ceramic tile  "The Sit-Down Strike of 1936 Memorial" an event that led to the first contract between the UAW & GM.  It replicated the nearby auto factories and had 4 large tile murals that looked like factory windows.  Facing the work were replica 1936 Chevy seats to see the work and sing Union songs from the a lower frieze text.

For the City of Phoenix a project for a grammar school consisted of an island in a 100 sq. ft. irrigated area,  a 35’ curved wall housing a mural on the history of Phoenix, in a structure suggesting an ancient indian step building, a copper clad window that lights up with the sun as school starts & a step platform that transforms the site into an outdoor auditorium.

Each projects took over a year to complete.
